Emergency Team Questions and Answers

What is an Emergency Team?

An Emergency Team is a group of trained building volunteers who help support safe evacuation and approved emergency procedures during fire alarms and building emergencies.

Team members provide general direction, encourage occupants to leave safely, report concerns, and support communication where appropriate.

Review Roles and Responsibilities

Are Emergency Team members emergency responders?

No. The Emergency Team role is to support occupants and approved emergency procedures, not to replace emergency responders.

Do not place yourself or others at risk, delay your own evacuation, attempt unsafe rescues, or perform duties outside your training and approved procedures.

What should team members do during a fire alarm?

Where it is safe to do so, remind occupants to evacuate, direct them toward the closest safe exit, and remind them not to use elevators.

Follow your training and the building's approved procedures, communicate urgent concerns to emergency responders, and evacuate yourself safely.
