Role of Emergency Team Members
Emergency Team members support safe, organized evacuations by encouraging occupants to leave safely, providing general direction, reporting concerns, and helping communicate with Western Fire Safety, emergency responders, and building leadership.
Carry out your role in accordance with your training and the building's approved emergency procedures.
During a Fire Alarm or Evacuation
Where it is safe to do so, help direct occupants toward the closest safe exit and remind them not to use elevators.
Follow your training and the building's approved emergency procedures. Communicate evacuation concerns to emergency responders or the appropriate building contacts.
Do not place yourself at risk or delay your own evacuation.
Supporting Building Occupants
Provide general guidance for building occupants, visitors, and anyone unfamiliar with the building's exit routes or evacuation procedures.
Support people who require assistance by following approved procedures and communicating their location and needs to emergency responders.
Provide assistance only where it is safe and within your training.
Reporting Concerns
Report non-emergency fire safety concerns, blocked exits, damaged equipment, or evacuation issues to Western Fire Safety.
Include the building name, specific location, and a brief description of the concern.
For fire, smoke, an active alarm, or an immediate threat to life or safety, leave the area and call 911 from a safe location. Do not report an emergency by email.
