Stay With Your Cooking

Do not leave cooking unattended. Stay in the kitchen or designated cooking area while cooking appliances are in use.

If you need to leave the area, turn the cooking appliance off before stepping away.

Keep Cooking Areas Clear

Keep towels, paper, packaging, food containers, clothing, bags, and other combustible items away from cooking appliances and heat sources.

Keep shared kitchens, staff rooms, lounges, and residence cooking areas clean, clear, and ready for safe use.

Use Approved Appliances Safely

Only use cooking appliances that are permitted in the space. Follow posted rules, manufacturer instructions, and Western requirements.

Do not overload outlets, use damaged cords, or operate appliances that appear unsafe, damaged, or malfunctioning.

Report a Kitchen Fire Safety Concern

Contact Western Fire Safety about damaged appliances, blocked exits, missing signage, fire safety equipment concerns, or repeated unsafe cooking practices.

Include the building name, kitchen location, and a brief description of the concern.
